Molex Premise Networks now selling Canon U.S.A. Inc.'s Canobeam DT-100 series free optics data transceivers internationally

Global Provider of Structured Cabling and Data-Transport Solutions is Offering Enterprise and Video Customers the Canobeam Product Series for Bridging Wireless Networks

Molex Incorporated, Lisle, IL December 13, 2007 - Canobeam, Canon U.S.A. Inc.'s family of cost-effective Free Space Optics (FSO) wireless data transceivers for low-cost, high-security, high-speed networking, is now available in the United States and internationally from Molex Premise Networks, a business unit of Molex, Inc., one of the world.s largest electronic interconnection product manufacturers.

Through an international agreement with Canon U.S.A., Molex Premise Networks is offering the Canobeam DT-100 series of FSO data transceivers as part of its innovative communications infrastructure solutions. Molex Premise Networks will extend its wired premises and campus structured cabling systems with Canobeam.s wireless FSO data-transmission systems to create high-bandwidth building-to-building network bridges where cabling is physically or economically not possible, or where redundancy and disaster-recovery networking are required. Target markets include growing high-tech centers in Europe, the Middle East, Asia and Australia.

"We are proud to work with Molex Premise Networks, which is a leader in its field," said Tom Yamasaki, vice president and general manager, Broadcast and Communications division, Canon U.S.A. "This agreement enables an even greater number of professional users worldwide to enjoy the advantages of Canobeam.s high-speed, highly secure and reliable wireless connectivity for extending vital network infrastructures."

"We are hugely excited about this international agreement between Canon and Molex," stated Anne Watmore, director of, Global Marketing for Molex Premise Networks. "The addition of the Canobeam FSO product range to our portfolio means that we now offer our customers an even greater choice when designing their network infrastructure. FSO is ideal for a number of enterprise applications for inter-building links and can be a cost-effective alternative to traditional fiber cabling. We see opportunities for this all over the world, and in fact have already had success with FSO in Australia with the Australian National University in Canberra, prior to Molex Premise Networks launching the product internationally."

The Canon U.S.A. Broadcast and Communications division's Canobeam FSO wireless transceiver systems use a line-of-sight light beam to transmit data at rates of up to 1.25 Gbps (Gigabit Ethernet) or 1.5 Gbps (HDTV) at a distance of up to 2 kilometers (1.24 miles). Set-up is quick and easy because FSO makes radio-frequency coordination and licensing unnecessary. All Canobeam models feature Auto Tracking as a standard feature to maintain beam alignment and signal strength despite vibrations caused by wind or other factors.

Canobeam systems are protocol-independent (like fiber), and the use of line-of-sight FSO makes the data transmitted virtually immune from interception. Canobeam models DT-110, DT-120, DT-130, and DT-150 feature Small Form Pluggable (SFP) fiber-interface connections as well as Canobeam's DT-MNG-100 Management Board, which enables users to monitor the status of Canobeam transceivers via simple network management protocol (SNMP) or Telnet (for monitoring and setting). In addition, diagnostic logs can be stored in a PC via FTP (for log data transmission).
